Artist of the WeekInterviews

Artist of the Week: LOYALS

This week, our Artist of the Week is the Nashville-based band, LOYALS. Meet the band in our exclusive Q&A.

  1. Can you introduce yourself to those who may not know you?
I’m Dane from Loyals. I’m one of three members of the band, and I
sing. We just released an album a few weeks ago on Tooth and Nail
    Records.
  2. How would you describe your music to people who have never heard it before?
Pop rock alternative with a bit of R&B influence. Most of the time I
just say we’re a pop band, though.
  3. What are you looking forward to most in 2018?
Touring. It’s been a lot of fun playing these songs live, and the
    crowds have been super cool.
  4. Who are your musical influences?
Literally everything and we have no shame for the music we all love,
but to name just a few: The 1975, Michael Jackson, Justin Beiber,
Imagine Dragons, Paper Route, Cartel, OneRepublic, Lydia, M83,
    Bryson
Tiller, Anberlin, Post Malone, Tears for Fears, One Direction… the
list goes on but I’ll spare you all of it!
  5. If you could collaborate with any musician, who would it be and why?
I think I’d love to collaborate with an artist like Post Malone or
Bryson Tiller. Some of the more chill, vibey material that I’ve
    been
writing is something that I could see one of those artists doing
    something cool with.
  6. What do you hope fans get from your music?
We want our music to hit home with people. If it makes you feel
something, then I think we did our job. We want this first record
    and
future records to be something that people can still still relate
    with
and love even when they’re old and Loyals isn’t around anymore.
  7. Tell us a little bit about your new album!
Well, we compiled about a hundred songs written over the past four
years and chose the best ones. We recorded with our long-time friend
and producer, Matt Arcaini, in Nashville and had a blast doing it.
Themes of the record would be love, friendship, heartbreak,
    question,doubt–really life in general.
  8. What is something that you’ve accomplished so far in your career that you are most proud of?
Honestly, putting a record out with Tooth and Nail has been really
cool. We all grew up listening to their bands, so having the
opportunity to be one of those bands now is just a really great
    feeling.
  9. What is a song you wish you wrote and why?
“Where Are Ü Now” by Diplo & Skrillex. I love that song so much.
Thewriting is so simple but incredibly relatable and catchy.
  10. Coffee or tea?
Coffee. I’m trying to drink decaf tea at night though.
  11. Current obsession song?
B.I.D. by Torey Lanez. Really deep into that song. Everyday listen
    at
    this point.
  12. Favorite TV Show?
That 70’s Show forever and ever.
  13. Ocean or Pool?
Ocean. Though, I will say that it terrifies me to think about how
    big it is.
  14. Favorite movie?
“Almost Famous”, I think. I just love the 70’s.
