INTERVIEW: Robbie Rosen
Robbie Rosen has been writing music from the age of eight, quickly finding that his true love would always involve music. It wasn’t until 2011 that his musical ambitions were paid off in the craziest of ways. Robbie is now known as one of the contestants on the world famous show, American Idol. Making it into the Top 8, Robbie now finds himself touring with some of today’s top artists and gaining all the experience necessary to thrive in the music industry.
Beyond The Stage: You said in your American Idol audition interview that you had been watching for nine years before you were on the show, was it anything like you expected it to be?
Robbie Rosen: Yeah it was definitely pretty much what’s on TV. Kind of what you expect behind the scenes and everything. It’s surreal. Watching it and then being on it; it was just a dream come true.
BTS: Was that like the most surreal part? Watching it back?
RR: Just watching and seeing myself on it, yes.
BTS: Obviously being there was totally surreal but was it strange coming back from it? When you’re done and have to go back to real life.
RR: Yeah you’re kind of like in a bubble when you’re on Idol. You make your Idol friends and you’re with the judges every day. So yeah coming home was really weird. I got back into baseball again. Had a bit of fun.
BTS: So how old were you when you were on the show?
RR: 16/17
BTS: So you kind of just got back into the school groove?
RR: Pretty much. School. Career. Baseball.
BTS: Well that’s cool. So I saw on Instagram a #TBT photo of your Facebook dashboard when your episode first aired. It has hundreds of comments and messages. Do you still get out of the blue messages or notifications giving congratulations or people wanting to know more?
RR: Yeah I get a lot of people wanting me to coach them. So I’ve actually, I do actually, coach people. One of my students is going to Hollywood this year. It’s pretty exciting. I have fun helping them. I do vocal coaching, song interpretations and arrangements. I help with stage presence and performances.
BTS: So when was your first coaching lesson?
RR: Probably a few months after I got back from my season.
BTS: I listened to your EP a little bit and it’s quite a mix of stuff. There’s an acoustic song, a dance tune, pop songs. Are you working on a full album?
RR: Yeah I mean I’ve probably written over 120/130 songs since I was 8 years old. I only chose a couple of these though. Songs I thought my fans would like, a diverse mix. I definitely have the songs for a full album but I’m just waiting for the right time to put it out and record it.
BTS: So what exactly is on your 2015 goals list?
RR: Pretty much keep doing what I’m doing. Performing. Touring. Writing. Writing for other people too. Recording. Coaching. My career is my full time gig but the coaching is on the side when I have time. I love working with people.
