AOTW: Palmyra Delran’s Reflection
Artist of the Week Palmyra Delran reflects on Come Spy With Me, her most recent release. Learn more about the guest recordings, the process and more below:
Come Spy With Me is a collection of new songs I’d been working on for a while, and a few older ones from my years with the Friggs – Kill Yourself and Tragedy Ann. We recorded a cover song by the 70s girl band Fanny that we used to play back then too.
The idea of having guests join us for the recording started with Kim Shattuck. We recorded a single a few years ago and have fun working together, so I asked her first. Debbie Harry came next while yakking with her at a party. She asked me what I was up to, and when I told her about the album, and she was into doing some singing on it, too. After thinking about it, I thought it would be fun to have friends join me and everyone else kind of fell into place.
Working at Little Steven’s studio was a blast! He’s got a bunch of super cool vintage gear to play with. Beautiful old amps, a great drum kit, and so many old keyboards. It was a great environment to try new/old gear and be encouraged by a great bunch of people.
