New Music Monday: Jon Bellion

New Music Monday_JB3

From the man that brought you the chorus to “The Monster” by Eminem and Rihanna, this week’s new music Monday is Jon Bellion. The New York born singer has more than a few claims to fame, but in most recent news, he has the credits for co-writing and producing “Trumpets” by Jason Derulo back in 2012.

Bellion isn’t your normal singer-songwriter, hip-hop or pop artist. He’s influenced by dozens of artists citing Kanye West to be the most influential. But when taking a bigger look into his influences, Spotify is a true resource. His “Dream Festival Lineup” includes Bon Iver, Jimmy Eat World, Band of Horses, while his “Songs That Made Me Dream” playlist includes Hillsong United and James Taylor.

So why is Bellion our New Music Monday?

Bellion is different and we say that in a good way. When you’re tired of your normal genres, Bellion provides a completely different genre to listen to. A mix of hip-hop, electronic and almost indie music is perfect for a sunny Monday after work. His soulful (and true) lyrics provide an insight into the average human brain and he discusses issues that are impactful towards the audience.

His electronic beats created from scratch aren’t the “four chord pop songs” but carefully crafted over months of time to fit his lyrics perfectly.

“Human” is one of Bellion’s slower songs, describing his anxieties towards being alone for the rest of his life, telling someone that he loves them and keeping his relationships with his family members.

You also might recognize Bellion from Zedd’s hit “Beautiful Now” topping the Top 40 charts in under a week. The video has also reached more than 9 million views and continues to be in the radio rotation.
