Sedona Premieres “Leaving The Chapel” Music Video
Sedona premiered their first video of 2021 today with their single “Leaving The Chapel.” The song is from their debut EP Rearview Angel, which was released back in October.
Speaking on the song, Sedona shared with Beyond the Stage (BTS) where it came from and the meaning.
“Much of the songwriting comes from a place of self-soothing, and “Leaving The Chapel” is one of those songs. It’s a song for sitting in your bedroom after a bad breakup. It’s a song for having a good cry as you drive down the highway with your windows down and music blasting. I don’t want to say much else in regards to the meaning behind it. I’d rather allow the listeners to develop their own personal relationship to the music without me telling them how to feel.”
Directed by Haley Appell who has worked with popular artists like Taylor Swift and Doja Cat, the video takes viewers through a hauntingly heartbreaking wedding that took a turn for the worst.
With jewelry by Janky Jewels and outfits by Sophie Klem, the video includes ’80s pop style with puffy sleeves, electric eyeshadow, and feathered and mullet-like hair, an ode to Sedona’s female pop idols Madonna and Stevie Nicks.
Sedona told BTS what it was like to work with Haley and bring the story to life.
“In regards to the video, I am a very big dreamer when it comes to storytelling. This video is the 80’s soap opera embodiment of the song. It materializes every lyric and feeling to the most dramatic degree, and I couldn’t be more in love with it. Haley and I have had mutuals for the last few years, and have been trying to work together for quite some time. ‘Leaving The Chapel’ finally gave us the chance to cook something up together. It was quite a journey to make and now that it’s out in the world, I cannot wait to make more with her. She is truly a dreamboat of a collaborator and I am tickled pink with how she brought the song to life. ‘Leaving The Chapel’ forever!!!”

“When you give someone your all, and they can’t even meet you halfway, ‘Leaving The Chapel’ comes to the rescue,” Sedona shared. “It’s a song about revisiting pain and growing through it. It’s a song about heartbreak, and a warning to those who forgive too easily. It’s a testament to the dark underbellies of empathy, forgiveness, and understanding. It’s a strong piece of advice for listeners — be weary of giving someone too many chances, because at the end of the day, how many times should you allow the same person to hurt you over and over before you put your foot down? Love blurs that boundary, and this song is living proof.”

Their EP Rearview Angel received recognition from the popular streaming service Spotify and was included in some of it’s top playlists “All New Indie,” “Fresh Finds,” and “Indie Pop.” Since being founded by lead singer and namesake, Sedona has evolved into a group of creative minds, consisting of Merilyn Chang (keys), Claire Gilb (guitar), Margaux Bouchegnies (bass), and Tia Cestaro (drums).
Sedona began turning heads with their debut single from 2018 “Call Me Up,” which is their most streamed song across platforms. “More Love” and “Closer” followed soon after over the next two years.
What started out as just a few soulful and successful songs quickly grew into a vibrant discography of indie pop rock anthems!
