DENM Releases “Califas” with Announcement of Debut Album

Singer, songwriter, and producer DENM released his newest single “Califas” with Jared Watson of Dirty Heads last Friday just under a month before his debut album Slum Beach Denny will drop. Along with the single DENM announced the album’s release date and tracklist. It will be released on May 14 via Ineffable Records after signing with them in September.

“Califas” is one of four songs from Slum Beach Denny’s tracklist that was released on April 16, following “Fallin,” “Blow It Up,” and “My Wave” released starting in November. The track is a smooth, reggae/rock hybrid that showcases slick vocals and eclectic taste, landing it a spot on Spotify’s The New Alt  playlist. It is successful in transporting listeners into the seat of a convertible, driving down the Pacific Coast Highway with their hands in the air and dancing along to every beat.

This past Monday, DENM also shared on his socials that “Califas the movie” will be dropping on May 3.

“‘Califas’ is a song to have fun to, get wild with your homies, and just smile,” DENM said. “Forget all the b.s. and just take 2 shots, get your head right and enjoy your life.”

DENM’s signature is a unique mixture of alternative rock, reggae, and hip-hop. It embodies who he wants to be as a musician, someone creating music that they truly believe in. Slum Beach Denny includes snapshots of his life through songs like “Califas,” “Life’s 2 Short,” and “Fallin,” an acoustic jam detailing the uncertainty of confessing your desire to transition from friends to partners. The self-produced collection’s other popular singles “My Wave” and “Blow It Up” have garnered attention and been included in playlists like Spotify’s Beach Vibes and Soak Up The Sun as well as Pandora’s Top Thumb Hundred and Cali Reggae Countdown. “My Wave” has accumulated over 1.5 million streams on Spotify since its release in November.

Other than Watson, Slum Beach Denny also features guest appearances from JAG, GDSN, Casey Veggies, Sword Beach, The Patten, and Darnell Williams.

The full-length record brings DENM an immense source of pride as a coming-of-age moment. Tying together his varied influences ranging from Mac Miller, The Clash, and Peter Tosh to Misfits, Ben Harper, and The Pharcyde with a classic west coast sound, it, like him, drops plenty of hazy daze optimism into his melting pot of youth culture and life experience. Emerging with a 21st-century soundtrack, the independent multi-talented artist takes listeners to SoCal’s sun-kissed sand, surf, and streets.

“Everything was fully realized: the vision, the mission,” DENM shared. “I wanted to make a soundtrack of life that everyone can experience: falling in love, good times, hard times, a little bit of everything.”

Following its release, DENM will be hosting a free album release party on Sunday, May 16 in Huntington Beach, CA. For more information on the show, see his post below.
