Premiere: Indie-Pop Singer Lyncs Releases “Obvious”

Lyncs, the stage name for Pennsylvanian turned New Yorker Jacqeluine Hynes, is an indie-pop singer, songwriter and producer. Today (July 16) marks the release of her new song “Obvious.” The song, written by Lyncs and Keith Varon over Zoom, was inspired by a romantic relationship Lyncs had that was never officially a relationship.

The songstress has steadily been building a reputation for herself in the music world, already being featured on American Songwriter and Billboard. The rising star also has an impressive discography; “Obvious” is the fifth single she’s released in 2021. Earlier in the year, she dropped  her single “just being honest” and her hit “Prom Queen,” which was featured on Spotify’s “Today’s Singer-Songwriters” playlist.

“Obvious” is a wonderful indie-pop melody perfect for the summer. It’s smooth, sweet, and vulnerable, perfect for the hot, lazy days ahead.

The song exemplifies short and (bitter) sweet. With a playtime of 2:28 minutes, Lyncs wastes no time getting to the point.  The lyrics are blunt. There’s no fluff around what she’s trying to say and wants the audience to hear, emphasizing the song’s title on how obvious her situation seems. The song sonically takes a soft-pop approach, never coming across as harsh, but still being forceful. Ultimately, for Lyncs, the song is a message of self-acceptance and authenticity. Lyncs

When not writing songs over Zoom, Lyncs can be found performing all over New York City. She’s performed at various locations such as The Bitter End on Bleecker Street and Pianos, located in the Lower East Side.  The singer is working her way up to becoming a New York staple and is on the path to be the next indie icon. We can’t wait to hear what she drops next.
