English singer-songwriter cavetown brought their headlining tour to The Fillmore in San Francisco earlier this month. The soft-spoken young artist brought a quiet fierceness to the stage as he performed his signature style of honest lyricism and laidback bedroom pop.

cavetown is the project of Robert Skinner, who started uploading original music to YouTube in 2012. Since then, the young artist has collaborated with artists like mxmtoon, beabadoobee, and chloe moriondo, produced hits like “prom dress,” and amassed a worldwide following of passionate fans. His fans’ admiration was apparent throughout the night, as audience members sang along to every word and even passed up gifts to the front of the stage.

Despite their massive success, Skinner is a refreshingly down-to-earth performer who appeared even a little bit bashful at the constant cheers from the crowd. A clear favorite of the night was “Lemon Boy,” one of the singer’s most popular tracks. “Frog,” a so-far-unreleased track quieted the crowd as they listened to the new lyrics in an almost hypnotic stillness. From the opening, soothing tones of “Fool” to the crashing, swelling energy of encore “Devil Town,” cavetown kept his crowd enthralled with every note.
