5 Songs By Our Favorite Sad Indie Girls

Sometimes you’re in the mood for a completely heartbreaking song. But other times, you want to wallow in sadness in a *cool indie way*, to a happier track. These female indie artists always have us covered, with meaningful lyrics and equally memorable music.

  1. “Thursday” by Holly Humberstone

You might know Holly Humberstone from “The Walls are Way Too Thin”, or more recently from touring with Olivia Rodrigo. Regardless, Humberstone’s songwriting will have you crying in your car while still nodding along to catchy background tracks.

  1. “Glory” by Snail Mail

The passion in Snail Mail’s lyrics and all the guitar makes “Glory” the perfect angst track, especially the play on words between singing “you owe me” and “you own me” in the chorus.

  1. “Chinese Satellite” by Phoebe Bridgers

No one sounds prettier singing about identity crisis than Phoebe Bridgers. It’s a classic off her sophomore album Punisher that’s both depressing and upbeat.

  1. “Tired” by Beabadobee

This hit is a particularly sad one on the list, but the chorus makes you feel like you’re floating on a cloud while Beabadoobee sings about “the stressed and scattered brain of every human out there”.

  1. “Good Looking” by Suki Waterhouse

We had to include a Tiktok anthem on the list. In “Good Looking”, Suki Waterhouse tries to make sense of a lying love interest.

These sad indie girls are tugging at our hearts, and we couldn’t love it more!
