Review: Dreamer & Son “Written Off, Moving On” EP

Boston rock band Dreamer & Son brings an aggressive, yet capturing sound along with meaningful lyrics on their recently released EP, Written Off, Moving On.

The band consists of guitarist and lead vocalist Sayak Das, bassist Jake Sierzega, guitarist Matt Bolton, and drummer Josh Parra. The band lists Emarosa, Circa Survive, Coldplay, and Kings of Leon as some of their main influences.

The EP opens with “Tension,” a driven song that almost feels like a score from a beginning of a film. According to the band’s BandCamp page, the EP is about growing up. In the track “Hello Vancouver,” we are introduced to the band’s meaningful lyrics. It may sound ’emo,’ but it’s true emotion that any lyric and music lover will love about this EP. “Sweep” is a track about trying to find the truth and wondering if the decision is the right decision.

The constant theme as stated by the band is the idea of growing up, but at the same time it’s about finding closure with struggle of love. The subject who is telling the story in the EP wants the truth from his relationship. He wears his heart on his sleeve and gives without receiving from his lover. He wants to get out of his depression, but isn’t sure how to in the first two songs, before the band gets into sending listeners a message on how they’re not alone in “Not One Dry Eye” and reveals a personal side in “Everyone Loves the Violins.”

Dreamer & Son is band that focuses on relatable lyrics that tell a story.
