Album Review: Justin Bieber “Purpose”

Justin Bieber’s Purpose combines R&B tones and a club music vibe. The album really shows off Justin’s talent as a singer and songwriter.  Some of the most notable tracks included on the album are “I’ll Show You,” “Love Yourself,” “The Feeling” and “Purpose.” We had to wait three years for Bieber’s return, but it was well worth that wait.

“I’ll Show You” goes a little bit deeper into his struggles with depression and his public image. This past year things haven’t been going very well for Bieber and there was no doubt that he would channel his emotions in his music.  “My life is a movie and everyone’s watching / So let’s get to the good part and past all the nonsense / Sometimes it’s hard to do the right thing / When the pressure’s coming down like lightning / It’s like they want me to be perfect / When they don’t even know that I’m hurting,” he sings in the opening verse and pre-chorus.

The album features collaborations with Big Sean, Skrillex, Diplo, Travis Scott, Nas and Halsey. The most notable collaboration is Bieber’s song with Halsey, entitled “The Feeling.” Their voices blend together seamlessly and this is the collaboration that nobody seemed to be expecting.

“Purpose” is one that is a very personal song because it tells the story of Justin’s struggle, and how his renewed relationship with God has given him purpose.  Through the track, Justin has made it no secret that his faith plays an important part in his life.

He’s come a long way since he was discovered as a 14-year-old boy on YouTube, and now he’s a pop superstar capable of just about anything. Justin Bieber’s album is definitely a new step for his career: With collaborations, acoustics, jams and deeper lyrics, he’s delivered an album filled with a ton of potential hits. But most importantly, it’s bold and honest. He looks back at his mistakes, but continues to push forward and remind us why we first fell in love with him in the first place: the music.
