December Staff Playlist

December is filled with new music, holiday music, Best of 2017 lists and so much more. Our staff compiled a list of the songs we really can’t stop listening to lately. Follow our December Staff Playlist playlist here or listen on Spotify at the bottom of this post.

Quit (Feat. Ariana Grande) – Cashmere Cat

Addie Whelan – Managing Editor

When I went through my Spotify “2017 Wrapped” playlist, I didn’t realize how much I listened to this song. With Ariana’s insane vocals and Cashmere Cat’s subtle background music, it heavily focuses on her range and ability to hit her highest notes. It’s lowkey enough to listen to while writing a paper, but has enough of a beat and bass to keep you going through the rest of the day.

Perfect – Ed Sheeran

Alicia Rangel – Art Director

Driving in the car singing along to this song is nothing short of perfect. Ed’s voice is so soothing and it just melts your heart. I could listen to this song for hours on repeat and it sounds as great as it did the first time. A love song, christmas time and Ed Sheeran? Yes please.

Runaway – Sasha Sloan

Gina Scarpino – Photo Editor

When I first heard Sasha Sloan’s voice, I was instantly captivated. There’s a clean, simplistic feel to her voice that pairs well with her relatable lyrics. “Runaway” is about always running away from a relationship as soon as things are going well, which is a feeling everyone can relate to in some capacity. The raw vocals on the track help listeners feel the pain with her as she tells her story.

take me on – joan

Madeline Shiffer – Deputy Editor and Online Content Manager

I’m not usually a huge fan of “discover” type playlists, but my 2017 “The Ones That Got Away” collection on Spotify really hit the nail on the head. I’ve been listening to this song since I first went through the playlist and it’s been stuck in my head 24/7. A true bop that was slept on!

Love Someone – Jason Mraz

Delaney DeAngelis – Deputy Editor and Online Content Manager

I’ve recently really gotten into Jason Mraz’s music. For a long time, I had only known his big hits. But as I get more and more into his music, I’ve found some really great hidden gems from him. “Love Someone” is no exception, it’s just a cute, happy love song that I’m obsessed with.

I Don’t Want It At All – Kim Petras

Blake Charles – Contributing Photographer and Writer

With punchy synths, a danceable groove, and an earworm of a chorus, “I Don’t Want It At All” is bubblegum pop at its finest. This song perfectly plays up the self obsessed pop star cliché, which is perfectly echoed by Kim Petras’ lovably bratty vocal delivery. The music video features Petras’ praying to a Paris Hilton shrine, and if that doesn’t perfectly describe this song, I don’t know what does.

Feels – Kiiara

Marissa Sandoval – Contributing Photographer + Writer

Okay so I knew I listened to this song for a solid month before Coachella this year but I didn’t realize it was actually so much until the Spotify wrapped thing told me this was “My song” or whatever. Anyways it’s fantastic, I love Kiiara’s vibe and it should be more of y’all’s song.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas- Michael Bublé

Bailey Flores – Contributing Photographer and Writer

What’s Christmas without a little Michael Bublé? It’s finally time to blast Christmas music the whole month long. Michael Bublé’s Christmas album is one of my favorite albums to listen during the holidays.

South – Hippo Campus

Valerie McIntyre – Contributing Photographer & Writer

This song has been my go to especially during the last weeks of school and cramming in school work and projects.

Getaway Car – Taylor Swift

Alyssa Buzzello – Contributing Photographer and Writer

This song is a bit of a guilty pleasure because I’ve never been much of a Taylor Swift fan, but really it has been stuck in my head since the album came out. Did you know that the opening line is actually Jack Antonoff’s voice into a machine?

The Louvre – Lorde

Maya Alfia – Contributing Writer

Melodrama was my album of the summer; it’s been awhile since I listened to it, but when I did, all my admirations about it came rushing back to me. Lorde has the magical ability to make feelings into art and create the most beautiful and chilling songs while doing so. The Louvre has something especially atmospheric and otherworldly about it.

Get Into My Car – Echosmith

Lauren Klonowski –  Contributing Writer

It’s been awhile since Echosmith has put music out, so when I found out they had a new EP, I was really excited. I love the entire EP, but this song is definitely the highlight. It’s a chill, catchy pop song. Perfect to get me in a good mood.

Young Lover – St. Vincent

Abby Fox – Contributing Writer

St. Vincent’s new album, MASSEDUCTION, is one of those rare albums I actually love listening to all the way through. This song is the most danceable track off the album, and it’s just so catchy.

Love You Like That – Dagny

Kristen Humphries – Contributing Photographer and Writer

It’s impossible to be anything but happy while listening to this song. The chorus is infectious and it perfectly describes the feeling of being in love!

E.Z- Blackbear ft Machine Gun Kelly

Sam Aneed – Contributing Photographer and Writer

This song has been on a constant rotation in my playlist since Blackbear released his album. Recently it’s been on repeat though. This song is so good, from the lyrics down to the beat, back to the collar with MGK, it’s all around fantastic.

I often find myself growing attached to music I relate to, and this is one of those songs for sure. Finding songs that relate to a certain situation or your life in general is easy but finding one that speaks to you when you’re going through that “whatever” is really great.

Had 2 Know (Personal) – White Denim

Courtney Cook – Contributing Photographer & Writer

I have had this song on repeat for a couple months now. I love this band and specifically this sound. The southern vibe of the song is the main thing that I was attracted to. Being from the south, I am always drawn to a good guitar rhythm and a catchy melody. I hope I never get tired of this track.
