5 Current Female Drummers You Should Know
Female drummers should be celebrated. In such a male dominated field, it’s refreshing and important to see variety.
Being a female drummer is somewhat of an anomaly. It always has been and it remains that way today. There have been female drummers that have paved the way for the ones today such as Samantha Moloney, Patty Schemel, Janet Weiss, Sheila E. and many more. We want to highlight 5 current female drummers that are absolutely killing it in the world of music.
Elaine Bradley: Neon Trees
Elaine Bradley joined the Neon Trees in 2006. Since then, she has had 4 kids. She would play shows when she was pregnant, really proving women can do it all. The band took a brief break in 2015 but they were back making music and released a new album, I Can Feel You Forgetting Me, in 2020.
Lelah Maupin: Tacocat
Tacocat was founded in 2007 in Seattle. They are an indie punk rock quartet and Lelah Maupin is their drummer and co-founder. Their latest album, This Mess Is a Place, was released in 2019.
Amber Grimbergen: Hinds
Hinds is an all-female garage rock band from Spain. They currently have 3 full-length albums out, their most recent album, The Prettiest Curse, was released in 2020. Hinds has opened at multiple festivals, the most notable being Coachella.
Stella Mozgawa: Warpaint
Since 2004, Warpaint has released 3 full-length albums and lots of singles, their most recent single “Empty” was released in May 2021. The Los Angeles based band has supported many different artists including Depeche Mode and Harry Styles.
Lucy Giles: Dog Party
Dog Party consists of 2 members, and they are sisters. Gwendolyn and Lucy Giles released their debut album, Dog Party, in 2009. In 2016, the duo opened for Green Day during their North American leg of their Revolution Radio tour.
