Get To Know: BBabyH

The diverse music of rising artist BBaby H is one you’ll never forget. The Austin-based singer-songwriter talked to us about her ever-evolving sound and what inspired her to release music. Check out the interview below.

Beyond The Stage: Do you mind telling us your full name and why you chose BBabyH? What inspired the stage name?

BBaby H: My full name is Hannah Jewel Fuchs, but the reason I chose BBaby H is because my friends referred to me as that prior to creating my musical image. I enjoyed the name and thought it would look cute!

BTS: Have you always wanted to pursue music? Were you surrounded by music at home?

BH: Yes, I have! I knew from being so little that singing and writing music was something I wanted to pursue because it helped get through a lot of obstacles growing up. I did grow up around music my entire life, as my family is Samoan so my background came from samoan music, learning hula, and my mother forcing a microphone in my hand at the age of 5. It is custom for my family to learn music for our elders, and my mom wanted to carry on our culture.

BTS: What inspired you to want to start making and releasing music?

BH: I was inspired honestly from how lonely I was. I was never able to describe how I was feeling to anyone who asked. I never felt comfortable being vulnerable around people and that caused a void I was never able to fill, until I started writing my own music. Once I began writing, I realized that it helped me understand the depths of my mind. It helped me gain confidence in understanding that my emotions aren’t something to be ashamed of.

BTS: I’m getting a mix of pop and R&B in your music, how would you describe your sound? (Listen to her music here)

BH: I haven’t really understood my own genre yet because there is so much more I want to make when it comes to my sound. I love every genre of music so my mind is always full of how much variety I can have when creating new stuff. Right now I would agree that it is a mix of Pop and R&B but it’s likely to change with all the new stuff I have coming out!

BTS: Do you write and produce all your music?

BH: I do write my own music but I definitely haven’t mastered the art of producing at all! I do try and peek over my producers shoulder every once in a while to see how it works, but a majority of that stuff is way over my head. Hopefully one day I will be able to because it’s super tight.

BTS: What do you hope people gain from listening to your music?

BH: Hopefully that it’s okay to feel any emotion ever, and that  music is the one thing you have control over. It’s important to sit down with yourself and go over the things you’re able to control on a day to day basis, and music and how you perceive/feel certain things are on the list. My music is a creative outlet for me and I really hope it’s the same for people who do listen to what I create.
