PHOTOS: Bumbershoot 2018 [Day One] – Seattle, WA – 08/31/2018

Seattle Washington’s signature music festival, Bumbershoot, has finally arrived and invaded the Seattle Center. With fans coming in from all over Washington and the surrounding states, the festival kicked off Labor Day Weekend with a bang.

There was some diversity on the first day of Bumbershoot artists, but a quick glance through the lineup showed a favor toward EDM artists. The west coast, especially the pacific northwest, has a large EDM scene. Artists within the genre are perfect and staples for festivals, and can easily hype and entertain a crowd.

Artists like RL Grime and Mura Masa liven up a crowd with their production, and the surrounding stage lights and large screen behind them add to the overall experience. The biggest show and stage production of the night, came from none other than The Chainsmokers. Fireworks were shot at the very beginning, and periodically throughout their set. The fireworks could be seen over the trees throughout the Bumbershoot grounds, and likely past the Seattle Center and farther into the city. Their stage was massive, and raised high over the crowd. Throughout their set the duo would jump onto the stage to walk back and forth, and would hop down to the barricade to hype their crowd even further. Pyrotechnics and CO2 cannons were used extensively, as they are with many EDM performances.

Bumbershoot also enlisted the help from a pair of more throwback artists, Lil Wayne and Ludacris. Both artists brought out a huge crowd, and were a hit among the festival attendees who proudly sang along to the songs popular from their past radio days.

Bumbershoot has other non-music related things to experience as well. Various art shows and displays, a silent disco, comedy, yoga, craft and retail booths, theater performances, and food/drink catering from an assortment of Seattle vendors. The festival even utilizes the Science Center, featuring a laser dome.
