“Single in September” is the Latest Sensation from Pop Princess Zolita
It could be said that Zolita is like a phoenix, rising from the ashes. But the problem with this metaphor is that Zolita’s ashes aren’t a sign of any failures; instead, they are a sign of her successes, the residue left behind from the trail she’s blazing.
Zolita rose to viral fame with the release of her smash-hit “Somebody I Fucked Once,” which inches daily towards 120 million global streams. The music video garnered particular attention for its queer subversion of high school tropes, precisely the cheerleader/”tough” guy (or in this case girl) love combo.
Zolita’s high school days aren’t quite over yet, however. Her newest release “Single in September” continues the story where “Somebody I Fucked Once” left off, acting as the second entry in what is to become a trilogy. “Single in September” is pop at its finest. Zolita captures all the nuances of the conflicting feelings that can arise when in a relationship and the hard choices that have to or should be made. With a catchy chorus and introspective lyrics, “Single in September” is one of the rare times a sequel can be considered just as good if not better than the original.
Released alongside the new single is a music video directed, acted and edited by the blonde bombshell. In “Somebody I Fucked Once’s” music video, Zolita is depicted as a pink-loving cheerleader who falls in love with a Christian-Slater-in-Heathers (aesthetic only) type of gal. In the music video for “Single in September,” the audience watches Zolita and her girlfriend graduate high school, spend the summer together and face the reality they are going in two separate directions come September.
