Singer/actress/model extraordinaire Suki Waterhouse‘s multi-month run opening for Father John Misty may coming to a close next week, but we’re still here swooning over her Oakland performance last month.

After releasing her debut studio album “I Can’t Let Go” back in May, wrapping filming on Daisy Jones & the Six, and hopping onto a tour spanning four months, the multi-hyphenate starlet has impressively held her own lithely moving between studio, screen, and stage.

Opening her set with “Moves,” Waterhouse commanded the stage, enveloping the Fox Theater with her expert stage presence. After her last Bay Area performance in a cramped 250-capacity venue, witnessing her ease on a much larger, much more opulent stage was nothing short of a delight. The set flowed through songs off her debut album, from the sultry twang of “Devil I Know” to the hazy ambiance of “My Mind,” all while Waterhouse twirled and floated across the stage. Her otherwordly presence remained refreshingly down-to-earth as she occasionally stumbled on her tangled mic cord, only to throw her head back in laughter and return to the song.

Though the new album dominated the setlist, it was old favorites that were the true standouts. Departing from her typical hypnotic alto, Waterhouse soared into ethereal soprano during “Johanna”. By far her most successful song, “Good Looking” was greeted with enthusiastic cheers from the crowd, as Waterhouse remarked on how good-looking the audience themselves were. Equal parts dreamy, dramatic, and haunting, the song perfectly encapsulates Waterhouse’s carefully cultivated and oh-so hypnotizing aesthetic. As the song came to a close and the beaming Suki Waterhouse exited the stage, the crowd was left with the undeniable excitement of knowing they witnessed something special.
