Playlist: Philly Bands You Should Listen To!

Hey BTS Readers! My name is Valerie and I’m new to the BTS Team. I thought I would introduce myself with a playlist, but not just any other playlist. I am from Philly (Philadelphia) and I have to say I love my city and I love the music scene in my hometown! Philadelphia is just not all about the cheesesteaks and historic background, but we have an awesome music scene with many diverse sounds. Let me show off some Philly Pride to you by introducing you to some of these Philly bands you should listen to!

CRUISR

CRUISR is making Philadelphia very proud with summer indie rock sound. The band is based out of Philly and released their first in 2014 entitled All Over. Just recently they released their 2 track single this summer called Throw Shade. Check them out! I mean summer is basically over for most of us, but I think these guys will fit well into your fall playlist even with their summer like sound.

Cheerleader

Lead vocalist Joe Haller and lead guitarist Chris Duran, were schoolmates in Connecticut, however the duo relocated to Philadelphia expanding into a five piece band and Cheerleader was born! Cheerleader also has summer like sound, but it’s there catchy sing along songs that will put you in a great mood.

Marian Hill

Their soulful and unique sound will surely relax your stressful mind. Marian Hill is a duo consists of Jeremy Lloyd and Samantha Gongol. The two met at Haverford High School and relocated to Philadelphia. Check out some of their songs in the playlists from their album Sway.

Modern Baseball

That’s right! Bandmates Brendan Lukens and Jake Ewald went to school together in Maryland, however both relocated to Philadelphia to attend college. Lukens attended Chestnut Hill College and Ewald went to Drexel University. They formed the pop punk band Modern Baseball and released their first album in 2014 entitled You’re Gonna Miss It All.

The War on Drugs

The indie rock band, The War on Drugs, started with frontman Adam Granduciel, relocating to Philadelphia where he met former member Kurt Vile, who also relocated to Philadelphia from Boston. The band’s sound is a mixture of indie and new wave.

The Districts

They’ve been a band since high school and now they are touring and making some really awesome music. I highly recommend you guys check out The Districts! They are from a small town in Central Pennsylvania called Lititz, PA and then relocating to Philly in 2014.
