Pre-Concert Playlists

Pre-Concert Playlist: Abby Jacobson

I made this pre-concert playlist as a feel-good kind of playlist. Since genres can be pretty broad these days, I think all of these songs could fall into the alternative genre. I highlight some of my favorite artists throughout this playlist.

I’ve always been a die-hard MisterWives fan from day one so I had to include them. In 2020 they released their 3rd full length album, Superbloom. This album is an amazing 19-track piece of art. Their storytelling throughout each song and the album as a whole is refreshing. They have come a long way and I can’t wait for them to tour again.

Weezer and Blink-182 are bands I grew up on. My parents loved listening to them which translated into me loving them. I opted to go with songs off of their newer albums to keep it recent. I think it adds a good variety through the pre-concert playlist.

I could write a whole book about Maude Latour and how much I love her music. If you haven’t heard of her, you need to listen to her ASAP. I recommended her music to everyone I meet. She is a very up-and-coming artist based in New York. Her voice is amazing and her song-writing skills are top tier. Not only that, she attended school at Columbia University in New York and is a full-time student. She has such a passion and drive for music, she really is one to watch!

Being born and raised in Minnesota, I love bands that have Minnesotan roots. A/J Jackson of Saint Motel is a Minnesota native and loves to come back when he’s touring. One of Saint Motel’s songs, “Sisters,” actually references First Avenue, a big live show venue in Minneapolis.  Hippo Campus is from St. Paul, Minnesota. They all met at the Conservatory for Performing Artists and the rest is history. It’s always fun to see bands from your home state succeed, especially when you live in the Midwest.

Overall, this pre-concert playlist contains different bits and pieces of the alternative genre as a whole. With a mix of smaller names and bigger names, I hope you enjoy my playlist with some of my favorite artists!
