Snoh Aalegra’s ‘Temporary Highs In The Violet Skies’ Is Finally Here

Swedish singer Snoh Aalegra released her third studio album, TEMPORARY HIGHS IN THE VIOLET SKIES, on Friday and it is a classic.

The 15-track project is amazing from start to finish. The definition of no skips. In this album, we see Aalegra experimenting with new sounds that are more upbeat while continuing her mellow, soulful style that she’s known for.

It contains features from Tyler, The Creator and James Fauntleory. The team of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo a.k.a. The Neptunes make an appearance as well, providing production work for one of the songs.

The first track, “INDECISIVE,” opens up the vibe of this project with a song that’s fast and uptempo in the first half and slow and steady in the second half — hinting at what to expect from this project. Following that is her previously released single, “LOST YOU,” a song that’s a perfect recreation of the old classic R&B.

Next up is “IN YOUR EYES” and you know from the four-count beat in the beginning of the song that Pharrell Williams is involved. Produced by The Neptunes, it is a distinctively new sound that finds Aalegra diving into the more modern pop-R&B side.

The fifth track is “NEON PEACH,” one of two songs featuring Tyler, The Creator. This is one of our personal favorites because it is a fun, vibrant track that is meant to get you up and moving.

Later on, we enter a state of tranquility in “TANGERINE DREAM.” This song feels like an out-of-this-world experience. It feels like we’re in a dream. From the sound design to Aalegra’s angelic voice, it perfectly creates a heavenly vibe. Definitely one of the album’s standouts.

Then we get to the tenth track, “IN THE MOMENT,” the second Tyler feature. We think it’s important to note that Tyler not only provides his vocals but even produced both of his features on this album. It just goes to show that when these two get together, they make magic.

As we head into the last part of the album, songs like “ON MY MIND” featuring James Fauntleroy and “DYING FOR YOUR LOVE” slows down the tempo, almost as if it’s coming down from a high.

The production on this album is just outstanding. It is noticeably unique and distinct from her previous albums as we get to hear Aalegra dabble with modern, trap R&B elements to old classic soul. She responded to someone (in a now deleted tweet) about the production changes.

This has been quite a year for R&B music. It’s an absolute treat. But we think Ms. Aalegra just put out what we think is the R&B Album of the Year.

If you’re looking for the perfect summer album to chill out to, this is the one.
