New Music Friday – October 31, 2025

Happy Halloween and New Music Friday! There’s no tricks and lots of treats from top musicians releasing music today. Read on to see a full list of top picks from this week. First, here’s an in-depth look at a new album about coping and grief by one of the 21st century’s great alternative artists.

The Best of New Music Friday:

Florence & The Machine – Everybody Scream

Flo Mo

Trauma sucks. It hurts. It can sting for years. Sometimes it never goes away. It can reshape people, their attitudes and demeanors. While touring her last album, Dance Fever, Florence Welch was hospitalized. Doctors told her she suffered a miscarriage. She took those feelings and turned them into her new record, Everybody Scream

Welch struck up an interest in renaissance studies over these tough years, then tossed what she learned into her musical style, adding darker, and more twisted tones into her unique sound. Welch worked on the new Florence & The Machine LP with Idles’ Mark Bowen, Danny L Harle, the National’s Aaron Dessner, and Mitski, who helped pen the title track.

On that title track, a sinister organ and a choir of voices harmonise in the style of a horror theme, when suddenly, they are followed by the sound of screaming and a stomping glam rock rhythm.

Throughout the record, Welch also reflects on the idea that she must continue evolving as an artist, all while making fun of those who don’t. One such song encapsulating that idea iis “One of the Greats,” where Welch sings “I’ve really done it this time, I’ll be up there with the men and the 10 other women in the 100 greatest records of all time // It must be great to be a man and make boring music just because you can.”

Everybody Scream constantly shifts between themes of loss and recovery, adding another storied chapter to Florence & The Machine’s discography.
