Can you introduce yourself to those who may not know you?
We are The Unlikely Candidates, an alt-rock band from Fort Worth, TX.
How would you describe your music to people who have never heard it before?
We like the Strokes and the Gorillaz. We have a bit of that old rock grit. We also like big melodies and lyrically driven songs.
What are you looking forward to most in 2018?
Definitely looking forward to getting back on the road and playing some shows. We’ve been focused on writing and recording the past few months.
Who are your musical influences?
The Strokes, The Beatles , Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, 90’s West Coast hip hop
What about non-musical influences?
Elon Musk and Shakespeare
If you could collaborate with any musician, who would it be and why?
Beck. He’s really inventive and has been in the music industry for over 20 years now. Would love to hear some tour stories.
What do you hope fans get from your music?
We hope the songs find a place in listeners’ life whether it be a sound that resonates with them, or a lyric that helps define something in their own world.
Tell us a little bit about your most deluxe version of your EP Danger to Myself.
Our new song “Oh My Dear Lord” has been included on the Deluxe version. It is the next level of this sound that we developed on the EP, so you hear the evolution a little bit. It is a sonic cherry on top.
What is something that you’ve accomplished so far in your career that you are most proud of?
We have almost played a show in every state. Most of us have never really gone too far from Texas, so it’s awesome to be able to play shows and meet people all over the US.
What is a song you wish you wrote and why?
“Stairway Heaven” because it is a timeless classic that everyone knows. Or any song off The Strokes’ first album.
