Cola Share Medieval and Dreamy New Single “Mendicant” Ahead of European Tour

Cola, the rock band that achieved new heights through their 2024 sophomore album The Gloss, have returned with a new single titled “Mendicant.” The song features the trademark upbeat boppiness that Cola has worked to perfect in recent years–with a medieval twist. The song doesn’t just feature guitars, drums and bass like regular rock songs, as Cola (made up of guitarist/vocalist Tim Darcy, bassist Ben Stidworthy and drummer Evan J. Cartwright) have implemented a whistle and uilleann pipes into their loaded instrumental arsenal. “Mendicant” transcends positive rock music by adding a dreamy asset. It’s one of the most unique singles to come from Cola’s subsect of music this year. Listen to “Mendicant below.”

“‘Mendicant’ came together quickly for us in our usual writing flow, but it was really asking for another element in the mix,” said Darcy. “Ben gamely took a stab at tracking whistle and Uilleann Pipes, an instrument he’s been learning in his spare time. Add that to his discogs profile friends because he laid down the heat. The lyrics are a playful investigation of being a humble beggar of sorts, a person freed from need with their aura primed to headnod to some whistle.”

Cola have a busy month ahead. In addition to the new single, the band begins their European tour with a date in Ireland on May 28. The group spends a month performing around the continent before they play a few select North American dates in July. Scroll down to check out a list of tour dates.
