Fletcher dropped a surprise new song called “Bitter” last night. The song’s attitude and pettiness paired with R&B beat (which will make you bounce in your seat) make it the perfect progression for Fletcher. Along with the song’s release last night, she took to Instagram to tell fans about how she wrote the song with one of her good friends from college. finished the production with Kito over FaceTime, and filmed the music video while quarantining with her family in New Jersey.

“bitter” song and video out now. this was a funny one for me. y’all heard a suuuuprr rough 30 second demo of this and asked me for it for months. i wrote it with a college best friend @disbitchmary that i lost touch with for a while and this was the first song we wrote when we met back up and hashed out feelings and talked about old times. finished the production in quarantine over FaceTime with @kito and made a music video with @nowthisisliving and @studiotessbjiere. first time in my life putting out a song and video entirely written, produced, directed and edited by women. won’t be the last. babe gang 2020. go give it a watch / listen 🍋
In addition to releasing “Bitter,” Fletcher also dropped the music video for the song. It shows a chaotic mix of shots of her eating fruits, pouring honey on herself, drinking champagne, and eating lollipops. The video was filmed by her longtime collaborator Shannon Beveridge and directed by Tess Bjiere. There’s a some chaotic energy to the video, but it perfectly captures the attitude of the song and was perfectly executed (especially given the current circumstance).
Over the last 18 months, Fletcher has continued to make waves in music. In 2019, she made a massive splash with her single “Undrunk,” which has amassed almost 99 million streams on Spotify. The song even earned her the #16 spot on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart at the beginning of April last year. The song landed a spot on her second EP, you ruined new york city for me, which was released last September via Capitol Records.
“Bitter” is now available on all streaming platforms. Check out the video below!
