Fresh off of the release of his new single, ‘Ascension’, we caught up with DJ/Producer, SWAYLÓ. After beginning his career in the music industry as a promoter and talent buyer, SWAYLÓ pivoted to the world of production, and even created his own event series, Swayló Nights, which combines elements of music, mediation, art, and spiritual workshops. His latest single draws from his roots in the tribes of New Mexico and South Africa, boasting tribal rhythms coupled with melodic basslines and an ambient vocal sample. Check out what SWAYLÓ had to say about his work below!
BTS: How would you describe your sound to someone who hasn’t heard it yet?
SWAYLÓ: A Global Sound. Music designed to unite and uplift people. . Drawing from the global sounds of Native America, Africa, and the Amazon, Swaylo fuses techno, house, and hyphy hip-hop instrumentals to create an empowering and transcendental sound.
BTS: Do you want to talk a bit about the inspiration behind your new single, ‘Ascension’?
SWAYLÓ: Ascension means the act of rising to a new or higher level. I believe humanity is ascending to a space of heightened connection, peace and positivity. I choose to focus my attention on this space aligning my intention and my creative manifestation with this positive movement. The Earth is going through an Ascension. As we step into a higher form of existence, our old negative ways and patterns will be left behind and we will emerge into a place of pure connection with ourselves with others, and with our natural environment.
BTS: You started in the music industry as a promoter and talent buyer, do you feel that experience has benefited you as an artist?
SWAYLÓ: It gave me some perspective and context. It inspired me in different ways. I am grateful. I am passionate about creating, curating, producing, and executing events and experiences. That is where I see the most benefit in my experience as a promoter and booker.
BTS: What are you looking forward to most in a post-pandemic world?
SWAYLÓ: Like many others looking forward to reuniting on the dance floor without concern – getting back to a place of pure freedom, bliss and connection.
BTS: What keeps you motivated as an artist?
SWAYLÓ: Nature is so inspiring. I love to get out and observe the natural patterns. Emotions and feelings and being in the body def inspires me as an artist and to channel this energy into creative projects and art both auditory and visual.
BTS: Any artists/songs you’ve been digging lately?
SWAYLÓ: I’ve been listening to a lot of deep and melodic house. I love how this music is able to convey emotions. It’s a way to voice the spirit and the soul. Very inspired by the music that Roy Rosenfeld, Pambouk, Double Touch, Bross (RD), Arrab, Tim Green, and Shai T are putting out just to name a few.
BTS: What’s next for Swayló?
SWAYLÓ: Working on music – recording music in the Desert and down in the Jungle. Planning some different event concepts. Developing a fashion aspect to the project and some products. Looking to tour in Asia + Latin America as well as the States. And finally on a more personal level working to develop the Meow Wolf Events Program w/ the new developments in Vegas, Denver and into potential new markets. Thanks for taking the time to interview me. Much Appreciated.
Stay up to date with SWAYLÓ!
