The newest single to come out this year by indie-pop So-Cal favorite, HUNNY, gives us another sneak peak at what’s to come for the band. As the second single after “Speed Dial,” “Loser” brings us closer to the July 22 release of the “HOMESICK” EP via Epitaph Records. “Loser” released on June 15 and is produced by HUNNY and Carlos De La Garza (known producer for Cherry Glazerr and Paramore).
This brand new single has the dark moody lyrics and bright melody of a song that makes us want to drive our car through the city lights screaming the words out the window. Lucky for us, “Loser” also comes with a comical, yet charming music video that you can watch below.
For those who don’t know, HUNNY is a California-based band influenced by 80s and 90s alternative rock, and is formed together by lead singer/guitarist Jason Yager, guitarist Jake Goldstein, drummer Joey Anderson and bassist/keyboard player Kevin Grimmett. After blasting off in the indie-pop scene in 2015 with their “Pain / Ache / Loving” EP, the band was an instant hit in Los Angeles and surrounding cities in Southern California. Throughout the years since then, they’ve released a couple of singles, EPs, and their debut album, Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes., which was released in July of 2019.
The band has also toured around the country with Bad Suns, The Neighborhood, The Story So Far, Knuckle Puck and The Frights to name a few.
Since the pandemic, HUNNY has also released three singles in 2021: “Daydreams / Heartbreaks,” “Xbox Luvr” and “Sports With Strangers.” However, as HUNNY decides to narrow in on their sound which can range from alternative pop-rock to indie synth-pop, they have come together in recent years to create plenty of demos.
The band’s website says,

COLLABORATING AGAIN WITH CARLOS DE LA GARZA, HOMESICK INCLUDES FOUR SONGS AND FORTHCOMING MUSIC VISUALS, ALONG WITH AN IDEAL TOUR COMING THIS FALL/WINTER. IT BEGINS WITH THE PUNK-ROCK LEADING TRACK “HOMESICK” AND CONCLUDES WITH THE UP-TEMPO SONG “SPEED DIAL.”
The concluding song of the new EP, “Speed Dial,” was released as the first single in May 2022 and was accompanied by a cheeky music video which is full of compilations of the band having fun in the different terrains that California has to offer.
