With so much going on in the world right now including the Black Lives Matter movement immigration issues, climate change and the upcoming general election, many public figures are using their platform to speak on these issues. Among those is Jaden Smith who has premiered his own Snapchat Original series The Solution Committee focused on talking about the complex issues in the world.
The rapper and songwriter is an innovator of fashion, music, film and philanthropy revolutionizing each genre. The “Icon” singer has always been vocal about pushing the boundaries and has never shied away from confronting hard topics.
The series covers topics such as racism, climate change, voting information and so much more. Not only does Smith cover important topics, but features special guests as well such as Common, Yara Shahidi, Bella Hadid, Lena Waithe, as well as youth change makers.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10-minute episodes are released that discuss various topics that ultimately intertwine with the importance of voting. With four episodes out so far, guests have included Justin and Hailey Bieber, Yara Shahidi, Lena Waithe, Willow Smith, as well as youth activists.
So far, the series has covered voter registration, the importance of the upcoming November election, the power voting has on a local and national level, the Black Lives Matter movement, education and the importance of diversity giving both statistics on each topic and educated opinions. The election is the main theme of the series, making sure the youth feel empowered and have the tools and knowledge to be ready to vote, with a link to register to vote each episode.
This generation is a generation ready to fight for change and also educating others on doing the same. By using your voice and platform, big or small, you can make a change. Seeing the value in others and uplifting each other is so important and encouraging each other to do better and want a better world.
