Japanese Breakfast Write Korean Lyrics for New Collaborative Song with South Korean Band Silica Gel: Listen

There’s exciting news for Japanese Breakfast fans today (Thursday). Michelle Zauner and her band have joined forces with South Korean indie rock band Silica Gel to record and release a new song called “NamgungFEFERE (南宮FEFERE).” This song marks the first time Zauner has written lyrics in Korean. The collaboration comes complete with a dreamy music video. Watch it below.

“Anyone who’s familiar with my work knows how much my Korean heritage has come to mean to me,” said Zauner. “So it was very personal to collaborate with such a revered Korean band and to create something for a larger Korean audience.“

Zauner spent a year living in South Korea while writing and recording her latest album For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women). During that time, she also studied Korean.

Silica Gel are well regarded for putting on powerful, immersive performances. The group is scheduled to perform at major international festivals this summer, including Fuji Rock Festival in Japan and Playtime Festival in Mongolia, solidifying their reputation as one of Korea’s leading  alternative rock bands on the global stage.

Japanese Breakfast will continue their massive world tour with more dates this year. Tickets are available here. Scroll down for a full list of shows.
