New Music Friday – March 22, 2024

This New Music Friday is a solo artists’ wonderland. Adrianne Lenker from Big Thief returns with the solo LP Bright Future, plus Nourished by Time has a stellar follow-up EP to his 2023 record Erotic Probiotic. There’s even a treat for the electronic fans this week. First, here’s a look at one of the most anticipated LPs of the year.

The Best of New Music Friday:

Waxahatchee – Tigers Blood

Waxahatchee

The songs on Waxahatchee’s sixth record Tigers Blood dive right into human nature. To understand how singer Katie Crutchfield got here, you have to understand her previous album as Waxahatchee, 2020’s Saint Cloud. It also showcased that spirit. Saint Cloud dropped in the pandemic’s awakening of March 2020. The album was hailed as a form of collective salvation, earning a spot on numerous best-of-the-year lists.

Despite the somewhat cliched notion of music being described as a therapeutic remedy during that tumultuous time, it is worth noting that Crutchfield’s discography had seldom been praised for such reasons before. The emotional depth and raw honesty of her music have always resonated with listeners, but Tigers Blood takes it to a whole new level.

With each track, Crutchfield delves deeper into the complexities of human emotion, creating a sonic landscape that is both haunting and beautiful. She even gets a pick-me-up and helping hand from MJ Lenderman on “Right Back To It.”

Waxahatchee’s music continues to evolve and engage fans in truly unmatched ways. Crutchfield’s talent as a songwriter and musician shines through in every note, solidifying her status as one of the most compelling voices in indie music today. Be prepared to be swept away by the raw power and emotional intelligence of Tigers Blood.
