The Best of New Music Friday:
Fred again.. – ten days

Fred Again Ten Days

Something about this latest Fred again.. record feels both enchantingly intimate and aspirationally large. Fred makes samples and artist features connect personally with listeners during this 47-minute-long album. There are 20 tracks, including several well-produced interludes that feel like they could have been mixed by an artist of Fred’s stature, one that’s graced the headlining stages at Glastonbury and Coachella.

The album’s collabs include Sampha, Skrillex, Joy Anonymous, Emmylou Harris, Anderson .Paak and more, creating an interesting formula between those private, quieter tracks and the louder ones with a banging, loud execution.

Fred puts a bow on ten days with “backseat,” a fitting end that feels like snapshots frozen in time, thanks to the feathery vocals of The Japanese House: “Hold on to this feeling, because you won’t feel it for long,” she sings as Fred’s record goes into the sunset, but his ever-charming presence keeps rising.
