Not many artists have had a year like Japanese Breakfast. After the release of her latest album Jubilee, Michelle Zauner, aka Japanese Breakfast, also released her memoir Crying in H Mart. The novel went on to become a New York Times bestseller. On top of those accomplishments, Japanese Breakfast also scored a soundtrack for the videogame Sable. Coming off of all that, Japanese Breakfast now sets out on a North American tour, and makes a very welcome stop in San Francisco.

A gong was set up center stage, and when the lights dimmed and show began Japanese Breakfast stepped out with a drum stick in hand. Zauner banged the gong throughout her opening song “Paprika”, and opening track to Jubilee, while she and the crowd was all smiles.

Japanese Breakfast’s set leaned heavily on songs from Jubilee, but didn’t leave the stage before playing fan favorites such as “Boyish,” “Everybody Wants to Love You” and “Diving Woman.” It was an emotional night for every audience member, to see an artist as pivotal as Japanese Breakfast perform with joy and bring life to each song played.
