26-Year-Old Midland, Ontario born Opeongo pulls in unique lyrics, real world experiences and more for each of his songs. Now residing in Toronto, ON, Keegan Trumpour, (Opeongo) shared “Hopeless” exclusively with Beyond The Stage. Read what he had to say about the track below.
The song “Hopeless” was a precursor to all of the other songs on this record in that it was written a few years prior. It nearly didn’t make the record since it was so old comparatively, however it was lyrically thematic with much of the record’s content and ended up working alongside the newer songs quite nicely. It was written at a time when I was still living in my hometown when it seemed everyone I knew had moved away and was excelling within the realms of their education or career paths. I was working tirelessly in a slew of restaurants with nothing to show for my efforts but more money to spend at the bar. It was with the recognition of that feeling of stagnancy that this song came knocking in all of its four-chord-glory.
