Spoon’s “Hot Thoughts” Release & Review

As of last week, Spoon’s ninth studio album, Hot Thoughts, is out and available for listening! The album maintains the band’s recognizable indie rock vibe, while also adding a new electronic twist.

Hot Thoughts is full of catchy, foot-tapping tunes that are perfect for driving with the windows down in the warmer weather. Their previously released single “Can I Sit Next To You” is a groovy hit, and the title track “Hot Thoughts” is a full of edgy guitar riffs and an anxious funky beat that sets the tone for the rest of the album.

“Do I Have to Talk You Into It” is  bound to be a Spoon classic with its gritty vocals and driving piano chords. Another standout is “Tear it Down” – an anthem full of frustration about tearing down whatever divides us (possibly about a particular politician?).

The album concludes with a dark ambient track called “Us” that shows listeners a new side of the band, with atmospheric saxophones and bells – unlike their typical indie rock songs.

Spoon has also recently announced dates for a world tour for fans to to hear these new tracks live. To hear the album for yourself, listen below!
