Maruja Shares Jazz Punk Song ‘Break The Tension’

Horn-blowing noise punk band Maruja have shared a new song called “Break The Tension” The Manchester group also released an accompanying visualizer to pair with their latest track. The video showcases one of Maruja’s concerts with a slam dancing crowd while the band rages on stage. The amount of head banging at single Maruja show could potentially book a chiropractor’s schedule for months.

“Break The Tension” is the band’s first single release since their five-track EP Connla’s Wall came out in April 2024. On Instagram, the group described “Break The Tension” as their most ruthless track to date. Maruja is about to embark on a three-month long tour starting later in October. They will play across the EU and UK. Scroll down to see a full list of tour dates and find out which venue’s they’re playing.

Maruja brings a northern UK flair to the wildly popular jazz-filled noise rock. They make their own mark and join acts like O. from South London and Squid from Brighton in popularizing the genre. Maruja songs blast shrieking guitars that add a warping noise to their flavor of brass-blowing post-punk, something their contemporaries haven’t all quite capitalized on yet. While similar acts might play quick, punchy notes of horns, guitars and drums, Maruja finds a way to stretch out the noise underneath their fast-paced compositions.
