The Beths Share New Single “Metal,” Announce 2025 World Tour Dates and Sign to ANTI-

The Beths are back. The New Zealand-based band have shared a new single called “Metal” along with two more major announcements: the group has signed with record label ANTI- and will embark on a world tour in fall 2025. “Metal” comes complete with a music video featuring the band sifting through a collection of silverware they gather in the woods. Keep reading to watch it.

“Metal” is a jangly sounding song that was written by The Beths’ singer Liz Stokes following an intense period of touring, mental health struggles and multiple health-related diagnoses. These themes are explored through the single’s lyrics. The line “So you need the metal in your blood to keep you alive” is repeated throughout the track.

“In some ways ‘Metal’ is a song about being alive and existing in a human body,” Stokes said. “That is something I have been acutely aware of in the last few years, where I have been on what one might call a ‘health journey.’ For parts of the last few years, I kind of felt like my body was a vehicle that had carried me pretty well thus far but was breaking down, something I had little to no control over. All of the steps in the Rube Goldberg machine of life are so unlikely, and yet here we are in it. I have a hunger and a curiosity for learning about the world around me, and for learning about myself. And despite all the ways that my body feels like a broken machine, I still marvel at the complexity of such a machine.”

In addition to the unique charm carried in Stokes’ voice, “Metal” showcases The Beths’ instrumental capabilities. Guitarist Jonathan Pearce rocks a 12 string guitar while bassist Benjamin Sinclair and drummer Tristan Deck keep a tight and upbeat sounding rhythm section together. “Metal” is the first original single from The Beths since 2023 when they shared “Watching The Credits.” That song was a b-side recorded during sessions from the band’s most recent album, 2022’s Expert In A Dying Field.

The Beths begin their world tour in September, kicking off four straight months on the road. Performances start in Dublin, Ireland on September 19 and end with a show in Washington, D.C. on December 9. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 2 at 10 a.m. local time and will be available here.
